Mumbai–Goa Coastal Road Trip Packing List

What to pack for a multi-day Mumbai-to-Goa coastal drive: humid beach-town stops, long highway stretches, and a duffel bag that has to work harder than a suitcase.

Scenic coastal highway road trip in India

Why this road trip's packing is different

A Mumbai–Goa road trip means days of variable car time broken up by beach towns, so the packing priority shifts from a wheeled suitcase to a soft duffel that's easy to load and unload at multiple stops. The Konkan coast is humid most of the year, with a heavy monsoon (June–September) that's scenic but not ideal for driving or beach time, while the post-monsoon-to-spring window stays warm and mostly dry. Add hill stretches, ferry crossings on some coastal routes, and casual beach-shack dining, and the list looks different from a single-city trip.

Clothing

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing for humid coastal stops
  • Quick-dry beachwear for stops in Alibaug, Ganpatipule, or Goa's beach towns
  • A light rain jacket if traveling during or just after monsoon season
  • A change of comfortable clothes specifically for long driving stretches
  • One smart-casual outfit for a nicer dinner in Goa
  • A light layer for air-conditioned car rides and breezy evening drives

Footwear & accessories

  • Comfortable slip-on shoes for easy in-and-out at fuel and food stops
  • Flip-flops or sandals for beach towns along the way
  • Sunglasses for long daytime highway stretches
  • A neck pillow or cushion for overnight or multi-hour drives
  • A soft duffel bag rather than a hard suitcase: easier to pack in and out of a car at multiple stops
  • A cooler bag or insulated pouch for snacks and drinks on the road

Health, documents & tech

  • Motion-sickness tablets for winding coastal-highway stretches, especially through the Western Ghats sections
  • Sunscreen SPF 30+ for beach stops along the way
  • A basic first-aid kit and any personal medication
  • Phone mount and car charger for navigation on long highway stretches
  • Printed or downloaded offline maps as backup: signal can drop in ghat sections
  • Driving license, vehicle documents, and ID copies if self-driving or renting
