Why a checklist, not just an itinerary
A honeymoon has a different booking profile than a regular trip: certain room categories and romantic add-ons (lake-view suites, private houseboats) have very limited inventory and need locking in far earlier than a standard sightseeing day-by-day would suggest. This checklist is built around that timing.
Before you book flights
- Decide your split between Udaipur and Kerala: a common balance is slightly more days on the backwaters to slow the pace down
- Check both regions' seasons: Udaipur is pleasant October through March, while Kerala's monsoon runs roughly June to September
- Research lake-view or heritage suite categories in Udaipur, since these are the first room types to sell out
- Decide if you want a private houseboat in Kerala rather than a shared-itinerary one
- Confirm visa requirements and apply with enough buffer before the trip
2-4 weeks out
- Book your preferred room category directly and ask about any honeymoon amenities or romantic add-ons in advance
- Reserve your private houseboat for the Kerala leg: capacity is limited and the better boats book out
- Arrange a private boat ride on Lake Pichola or a similar Udaipur experience ahead of time
- Book transfers between the airport, hotels, and the houseboat departure point
- If you want a couples' spa or Ayurvedic treatment, reserve it now rather than on arrival
The week before departure
- Reconfirm any romantic add-ons or special requests directly with each property
- Pack for two distinct climates: Udaipur can be cool in the evenings while Kerala stays warm and humid
- Save digital copies of marriage or honeymoon documentation some hotels ask for when honoring package perks
- Check both legs' weather forecasts and adjust clothing accordingly
- Build in a slow, unscheduled afternoon on each leg rather than filling every hour
If you mention it's a honeymoon when booking, many properties will quietly upgrade or add a small touch: it costs nothing to ask.
